Beyond the Inbox: How I Regulate My Nervous System to Support Your Business

April is Stress Awareness Month, a time that often highlights the statistics of burnout within the UK. Having spent years in the high-pressure world of London Finance, I’ve seen firsthand the cost of operating in a perpetual state of high alert. I’ve witnessed all sorts, from a high functioning alcoholic cope with life in the office to someone dealing with the loss of their hair due to stress.

Now, as a Virtual Assistant for wellness professionals and a certified Yoga and Sound Healing practitioner, I know that my value to my clients is directly linked to the state of my own nervous system. I cannot provide high-level, calm, and organised support if my own body and mind is not being looked after.

Here is how I generate ease and regulate my nervous system daily to ensure I remain a grounded partner for your business.

The Low-Dopamine Morning How you start affects your entire day. I begin my morning with meditation, a workout, or a quiet tea with my journal. Crucially, I have all phone notifications turned off and no news apps. Negative global cycles affect your subconscious more than you realise. I choose to protect my peace so I can focus on what is important.

Caffeine & The Energy Debt I primarily drink herbal tea. There is a wise saying that drinking coffee is like "borrowing energy from tomorrow to use today." To avoid the jitters, especially when I’m preparing to lead a sound bath I keep my caffeine intake minimal. When I want a little boost, I sometimes opt for a ceremonial grade matcha with coconut milk and a drop of local organic honey.

Mid-Day Recharge: Shinrin-Yoku If my morning has been heavy on admin or deep-focus work, I head to the park. I’ve previously written about Shinrin-Yoku(Forest Bathing); the research proves that nature acts as a biological reset button. The local park is the closest I can get to a forest in London! I practice active mindfulness here, noticing the blossom or the shift in the leaves. Thoughts and ideas just come to me as if out of nowhere when I take time to just notice what’s around me.

Vibrational Alignment: Sound & Reiki As a Sound Healer and Reiki practitioner, these aren't just services I offer, they are also my medicine. Sound healing is one of the fastest ways to stimulate the Vagus Nerve, shifting the body from 'Fight or Flight' into 'Rest and Digest.' It clears my mind and body making my body feel lighter and my head feel clearer.

The Power of Co-Regulation As humans, we are biologically wired for connection. A catch-up with a friend or family member might not seem productive in a corporate sense, but it is essential for nervous system safety. I prioritise these connections so I feel supported and therefore can be much more effective in my day-to-day work supporting others.

Evening rituals By 10 pm, my phone is silent. Scrolling when you’re in the sleepy brain state opens your subconscious to a load of comparison and cortisol so I avoid this at all costs. My bedroom is as dark and quiet as it possibly can be. I don't follow a rigid sleep routine; I listen to my body’s requirements instead. Waking up with natural light ensures I start the next day with clarity.

Conclusion: Regulation is a professional standard and should not be regarded as a luxury. When your business support is grounded, your business can grow without the friction of stress.
